Duterte to UN: I’m the President

President Rodrigo Duterte once again spoke against his critics, this time with the message demanding acceptance of his authority and decisions as a president of a country.

The unforgiving campaign against illegal drugs had turned violent and bloody, as the “shoot to kill” policy was implemented in order to punish the people involved with drugs. As of late, 1,700 drug personalities have lost their lives, prompting condemnation from various groups from all over the world, and even the United Nations.

During the 10th anniversary celebration of the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command at the Naval Station Felix Apolinario on Friday, August 26, Duterte delivered a yet again expletive-laced speech against his administration’s critics. According to the President, the United Nations had broken protocols when it issued a statement expressing concern over the unabated extrajudicial killings which characterized his war on drugs.

“When I was mayor, you can really criticize me … call me names. But these dimwits forgot that I’m now a President and I represent a country,” Mr. Duterte said, as quoted by Inquirer. “Do not go outside to the media and start blabbering your mouth because I represent a sovereign state,” he continued.

The President had earlier threatened to pull the Philippines out of the United Nations.

Duterte added that he did not care about the United Nations’ human rights advocates and experts’ views regarding his controversial antidrug campaign.

“My business is to protect the people of the Philippines and keep intact the integrity of the republic. That is my solemn and sacred duty,” Inquirer further quotes the President.”
