Two women, baby rushed to hospital after explosion at Al Khail Gate

DUBAI, UAE: Two women and a baby were rescued from a residential building at Al Khail Gate on Wednesday, August 24, after a gas cylinder explosion.

In a statement from Dubai Civil Defence, the explosion happened at 11:23 AM on the fifth floor of building number 39 in the residential community of Al Quoz.

The explosion caused extensive damage to the structure, particularly on the apartments on the lower floors. The impact had also affected the two apartments and side façade of the building adjacent to number 39.

The building was immediately evacuated, and Civil Defence teams only gradually allowed residents to re-enter the building except for the fifth floor. Due to the exterior damages cause by the explosion, access is restricted. The displaced fifth floor tenants are relocated with alternate housing courtesy of real estate developer Dubai Properties.

In a statement to Al Bayan, Lt. Col Atiq Ahmed Bourguiba, Deputy Director, Department of Search and Rescue, Dubai Police stated that the evacuated residents of the fifth floor of building 39 reported the absence of two women residents of the affected apartment.

Bourguiba then added that a rescue operation was immediately ordered. Rescue teams went back to the wreckage and found the first woman recovering after the collapse of the roof. She was moderately injured.

The second woman was recovered by the rescue teams from under the rubble. She was seriously injured.

A baby was also found inside the flat, and all three were transferred right away to the hospital for immediate medical treatment.
