Filipino suspects charged of robbing Indian man on street

UAE: Three Filipino suspects were charged with robbing an Indian man, a court was told on Wednesday, August 24.

The three suspects, R.D.B., 44, E.A.A., 46, and the woman, S.M.K.B., 27, were all in the UAE on a visit visa. A fourth suspect was revealed to still be at large.

According to the prosecution papers, the mugging took place on November 5, 2015.

The victim had narrated that he was walking near Al Rifa’a police station when a woman suddenly appeared in front of him, blocking his path. Two men then grabbed each of his arms while the third man grabbed and shook his right leg.

“I thought there was something on my leg, perhaps an insect, as they kept repeating the word ‘fi fi’. The man holding my foot took off my shoe and threw it on the ground,” he said in the statement, as quoted by Gulf News.

Once the group had left, the victim distractedly put his shoe back on. Soon after, he realized that the Dh11, 200 in his front right pocket was already gone. The victim immediately reported this to the police. By the end of 2015, the Al Rifa’a police station received a number of similar cases involving a group of Asians robbing people in crowded areas, according to the statement from the policeman working on the Indian victim’s case.

Following an investigation, the police arrested the three suspects, who all confessed to their crime right away. R.D.B. was reported to be S.M.K.’s husband, and was friends with E.A.A. The suspect still on the run was the one who recruited the three of them and taught them how to steal from people. R.D.B. said that he agreed to participate due to his financial situation.

The three suspects’ share in the money stolen from the Indian man was Dh200 each.
