SSS clarifies glitch report

MANILA: The Philippines’ Social Security System (SSS) clarified the glitch reports that were reported recently. A computer glitch was said to have wiped out 5 years’ record of contributions of SSS members.

In a statement released by SSS, it said that “contrary to reports, SSS contribution records for 1985 to 1989 were not wiped out. They were already in the system and were just reposted, paving the way for pension adjustments for qualified pensioners which will be completed in three tranches by June 2017.”

The statement also reiterated that the system has several layers of protection. Philippine Information Agency (PIA) reported that apart from the SSS database, member’s records are kept in hard copy as well as in microfilm format. SSS has started the digitization of these records and maintains a disaster recovery site wherein all SSS records are replicated.

“Apart from the SSS database, members’ records are kept in hard copy as well as in microfilm format. SSS has started the digitization of these records and maintains a disaster recovery site wherein all the SSS records are replicated,” according to the statement.

The amount of contributions by an SSS member determines how much he benefits he will receive later on.

SSS members can apply for loans in times of financial need brought by sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, or death. Members can also apply for business and social development loans and housing loans. All these will depend on the number and years of contribution.
