Gloria Arroyo to undergo stem cell therapy in Germany

MANILA: Former Philippine President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is likely to undergo stem cell treatment in Germany and meet Filipinos in Europe and Asia.

“Stem cell therapy… that’s the one in Germany. I’m going to meet the Filipino communities there. I haven’t interacted with them in a long time,” GMA News quoted Arroyo as saying.

Arroyo also wants to meet with Filipinos in France and Hong Kong.

The camp of the former president reportedly filed a motion before the Sandiganbayan seeking its permission to allow Arroyo to travel to Europe and Hong Kong from September through November.

Arroyo’s legal counsel repotedly said, if approved, she would travel to Germany and France from September 20 to October 3 and to Hong Kong from October 29 to November 4.

Arroyo spent almost four years under hospital arrest at VMMC over plunder charges for the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office intelligence funds.

The Supreme Court dismissed the case in July this year due to insufficient evidence.

Arroyo said she still visits VMMC twice a week for therapy because she is still experience pains in parts of her body.

“I will have a check-up in Germany in September. I still have my pains here. I’m still a patient here. I still have twice a week therapy here in the medical center,” she was quoted as saying by GMA News.

Arroyo was joined by his husband, former First Gentlemen Mike, at the VMMC on Wednesday when they donated two dialysis machines, two bed units, and one air-conditioning unit, the report said.
