Presidential daughter calls Duterte to ask help with SONA homework

MANILA: President Rodrigo Duterte’s youngest child Veronica “Kitty” Duterte called her father a few hours after he delivered the State of the Nation Address (SONA) to ask help with her assignment about the president’s SONA, which will be the next topic in their class.

Duterte took Kitty’s call in the middle of the private dinner after the SONA which was attended by selected journalists and friends.

Kitty’s mom, Honeylet Avanceña, said that Kitty was not able to attend her dad’s first SONA because she was at school.

A clip from a report by GMA News’ Ian Cruz showed the President on the phone, giving Kitty a rundown of what he told Congress and the Filipino people in his speech, which ran for an hour and 32 minutes.

In it, he was telling his daughter that he talked about the need for “… understanding, especially with the Moro people and the communist.”

“Then I talked about drugs and the need to stop it… and I talked about helping the poor,” he was heard saying.

Aside from the 12-year-old Kitty, President Duterte has three other children with ex-wife Elizabeth Zimmerman: 41-year-old Paolo, Duterte’s eldest, is now Davao City vice mayor. Sara, at 38 years old, is taking the place of her dad as Davao City mayor, a position she had already assumed from 2010 to 2013 and Paolo, a father of two and a surfer. He frequently spoke at student events to promote to the youth his father’s presidential bid.
