SABAH: A Malaysian court has sentenced a Filipino hotel worker to serve 12 years in jail after he was found guilty of raping a minor.
Darussabah Abd Darussalam, 28, was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old Malaysian girl at a rented room in Segama, Sabah on May 13, 2015. He was arrested the next day, GMA News reported.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz on Thursday ruled the convict’s 12-year-sentence will start on the day of his arrest, May 14, 2015. After serving the remaining years in jail, he will be deported back to the Philippines.
Darussabah’s counsel, Datu Baginda Datu Laja, asked for minimum sentencing for his client on account of his good behavior and his status as the breadwinner of his family but the court rejected the plea saying a full court has found him guilty of the offense.
