Woman accused of abusing OFW escapes jail term

LONDON: The woman, who tied up her family maid after offering to pay her to have sex with her husband, has escaped a prison term.

Dina Matiass, 35, promised to pay 36 year-old Niressa De-Vincente, £200 (PhP13,605) to sleep with her rich husband in a bid to frame him for adultery and file for divorce, reported The Sun.

Egyptian, Zekri Gris, 56, who has four sons under 10, was not aware of his wife’s honey trap and accused the maid of stealing £12,000, the report said.

With the help of his wife, he reportedly used handcuffs and rope to tie up De-Vincente and threaten her with a knife in an attempt to make her ‘confess’ to the theft.

The couple kept the maid prisoner for 36 hours, filming the ordeal at their £650,000 home in Bishop Sutton, Somerset, said the news portal.

Video footage, taken by Matiass, reportedly shows the woman tied to a chair with blue clothesline while Gris shouts accusations of theft.

De-Vincente was then taken to another room where the couple bound her legs and ankles with furry leopard print handcuffs.

The businessman reportedly contacted the maid’s sister, showing her the footage in an attempt to blackmail her into repaying the ‘stolen’ cash.

He did not allow her to see her sister, claiming the childminder had gone out.

The terrified maid was seen by a neighbor three days later running down the street in a nightdress after escaping from a window using the rope, said the UK-based news portal.

The witness said De-Vincente screamed:”‘Help, help, take me to the police station! A man’s after me and they’re going to kill me!”

The couple both pleaded guilty to false imprisonment with Gris being jailed for three years at an earlier hearing, the report said.

Matiass was given a twelve-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, after the judge said she had been ‘dragged into’ the incident by her husband.

Judge William Hart claimed Matiass was a victim of an ‘abusive and controlling’ marriage and that due to her four young children, it would be ‘wrong’ to send her to prison, reported The Sun.

He said: “I have no doubt at all that you were dragged into this event by your husband. I am also satisfied the marriage was one that was abusive and controlling so it was not difficult for him to draw you in.

“He had an abusive history of conduct towards you but you had a choice to make. You made the choice to become involved.

“Your involvement was very much as a minor player in this enterprise but your filming in this instance clearly gave him encouragement to enable him to go on with the enterprise he had undertaken.”

Defending, Sarah Regan, told the court Matiass was ‘ashamed’ for going along with her husband’s plan.

She said: “It is true she offered Nerissa £200 above and beyond her normal salary and she put herself at risk, as that was something that she did without her husband’s knowledge.

De-Vincente began working for the couple as a childminder and cleaner February 2015 after her student visa ran out, reported The Sun.

The court was reportedly told she was happy working for the wealthy couple until she was propositioned to sleep with Gris for £200.
