Bahrain reassures job security of OFWs amid regional oil crisis

MANAMA: Bahrain has given reassurance that oil crisis in the Middle East will not affect the job security of overseas Filipino workers and they are not being specifically targeted to cost cuts.

Ambassador Amable R. Aguiluz V, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of the Philippines to the Kingdom of Bahrain made a call on His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Prime Minister’s Riffa Palace, last February 10, reported Inquirer.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister reportedly reassured Ambassador Aguiluz that the reported layoffs of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Bahrain is inaccurate and that employment for Filipinos will continue to be stable despite the recent oil price crisis in the region.

The Kingdom of Bahrain remains steadfast in its policy of supporting the workforce, as it is an important factor in their economy, the report said.

The Special Envoy reportedly made the same representation to His Excellency Jameel Bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labor of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

There is no such truth about any massive layoffs targeting OFWs and reassured the importance of Filipino workers and their contribution to Bahrain, the minister was quoted saying by Inquirer.
