Rising UAE football star passes away

The Sharjah Sports Club announced the death of Sultan Saeed Moftah, 20, Saturday evening.

Moftah was a rising football player of the U-21 soccer team after struggling with illness.

The statement did not disclose further details about his death.

On its official Twitter handle, the Club said in Arabic: “The Sharjah Sports Club extends their deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the late Sultan Saeed Moftah. We ask God to bless the deceased with mercy, and to grant patience and comfort to his parents.”


Condolences and tributes for the football player poured in on social media.

Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, offered his condolences to the family of the deceased.

“Our condolences to the Sharjah Club family on the death of player Sultan Saeed Moftah, the squad player and our youth squad, and ask Almighty God to have mercy on his soul.

“O God, have mercy on Him and Lord, grant His parents strength and reward them for their patience and faith.”

Last year, Moftah appeared with the team after a successful ligament surgery.
