South Korean MMA fighter dethrones Filipino foe in Abu Dhabi card

Lee Do Gyeom of South Korea stole the UAE Warriors featherweight crown from Filipino fighter Rolando Dy after scoring a first-round technical knockout (TKO) win in the co-main event of the UAE Warriors 8 at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.

Tapped as a replacement of Austin Arnett, who got injured in the training camp, Lee connected on a well-timed kick to the lower leg that dropped Dy to the floor, a report by asianmma.com said.

Egged on by crowd, Dy retaliated and landed some solid strikes but Lee stayed focus until he found an opening and lunged forward with a swift left hook.

Dy was sent crashing to the floor and Lee charged in and delivered solid left hands that prompted the referee to stop the fight.

Lee, who is known for defeating Filipino opponents, improved to 7W-3L record and captured his second championship strap of his career.

The dethroned defending champion Dy saw his three-fight win streak come to an end to drop to (17-8-0-1). (CC)
