Gilas Pilipinas bowed out of contention after enduring yet another blowout loss, yielding to the powerhouse Serbia, 67-126, in the 2019 FIBA World Cup on Monday night in Foshan, China.
“Serbia simply proved too big and too good for us,” said national coach Yeng Guiao in a FIBA.com report.
Gilas dropped to 0-2 (win-loss), losing badly anew after starting the tournament with a crushing 62-108 defeat at the hands of Italy.
Gilas’ last game in the group-stage will be against fellow winless Angola.
Gilas was only in the game in the first period when Paul Lee sank a jumper that handed the team a 9-7 lead.
Serbia then made its move and completely tore the game apart after building a 21-11 lead.
Nemanja Bjelica led Serbia by going perfect 7-for-7 from the field to finish with a team-high 24 points.
Nikola Jokic added 11 markers on a 5-of-5 clip from the field.
CJ Perez top scored for Gilas with 16 markers, while Paul Lee chipped in 15.
