Undefeated Filipino boxer Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo got himself back into position Saturday night for another title shot.
Magsayo won a unanimous decision over Thai fighter Panya Uthok Saturday night to win the WBC Asia featherweight championship at Bohol Wisdom Gymnasium in Tagbilaran city
He successfully retained his sterling fight record, now standing at 20-0 with 14 knockouts. Meanwhile, the Thai veteran fighter Uthok goes back home carrying a 53-7 slate with 35 KOs.
In the early rounds, 24-year-old Magsayocame out firing, charging at Uthok again and again with jabs and flurries to the body.
Uthok answered right back with a jaw hit to slightly create momentum in round 9.
Magsayo, however, continued to fire a hailstorm of hits to Uthok until the final bell.
It is a welcome victory for Magsayo, whose career was put on temporary hold due to an alleged managerial dispute.
After beating Shota Hayashi of Japan by unanimous decision to retain the WBO International featherweight belt in November 2017 in Tagbilaran City, he was idle for a long time.
He made his ring return in April this year in Singapore fighting under Vladimir Boxing Promotions, knocking out Indonesian Erick Deztroyer in the fourth round for the win.
