10 things you shouldn’t forget to bring at du Tough Mudder

Whether you are a first timer or a regular, du Tough Mudder has created a list of best gear for the big day!

Get your backpack, and start filling it with the below must-pack items!

1) Sneakers: Pack a pair of sneakers that drain well, so you won’t feel like your feet are weighing you down when you’re getting past the classic Mud Mile 2.0 or diving into the frigid Arctic Enema.
2) Socks: there are many options for socks, but we recommend choosing a pair with wicking capabilities (i.e. not cotton). Any length will suffice (ankle, above the ankle or knee). You can also choose socks with various cushioning. If you aren’t sure what you prefer, test out some different style before event day.
3) Shorts/leggings: leggings can be a good extra layer of protection but if the weather outside is humid or hot, you might want to consider shorts.
4) Towel: these are just great for whisking off extra mud and water
5) Baby Wipes: because when was it ever a bad decision to have wipes just in case?
6) Changes of clothes: you might want to change out of your muddy clothes into a fresh outfit, think of the insides of your car, or the Careem you take back home! If you’re trying to pack on the light-side, remember that you get a free finisher T-shirt at the end of the course, so just pack bottoms.
7) Your Careem code: speaking of muddy cars, why not leave the keys at home, and use Careem’s offer for all participants – a 40% discount on your Careem fare to and from the event using the code ToughMudder!
8) Sneakers or flip flops: let your feet dry off after running around in the mud.
9) Sunscreen: who enjoys being sunburnt?
10) A positive attitude: Of all the things to pack into your gear bag, this might be the cheesiest. But, there’s a real advantage to having a positive attitude out on course. Cheer on your fellow Mudders, help each other through Block Ness Monster, and thank the volunteers. Focusing nervous energy or apprehension about certain obstacles won’t help you crush the course, so smile, relax, and remember why you signed up in the first place.

Finally, here are 3 things you should NOT bring with you!

1) Do Not Bring Your Ego
At the end of du Tough Mudder, there’s no shiny, pretty medals waiting for you. (Sorry.) At the finish line, you’ll get a headband, one that mops up everyone’s sweat just the same. du Tough Mudder is not a race – it’s a team-oriented challenge to test your mental and physical grit in an environment that values camaraderie over course time. Finish one and you’ll understand why completing a Tough Mudder feels so good.

2) Do Not Bring Your Negativity
Had a rough week at work? Just generally feeling down and underappreciated? While life does indeed get tough sometimes, your perceived misfortunes shouldn’t give you a reason to be a (literal) stick in the mud on course and in life. du Tough Mudder is a place to turn negatives into positives, not vice versa.

3) Do Not Bring Your B-Game
This goes for your C, D, and F-game too, wise guy. Keep in mind that every single Mudder, each of which will eventually need a helping hand, benefits from you doing your best.
