Huge cash prizes, gadgets await public transport users in Dubai

You can have a chance to take home thousands of dirhams if you ride public transport vehicles from today, Oct. 23, to Nov. 1, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced.

In a campaign tie-up with the Dubai Fitness Challenge initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, the RTA will launch several challenges for the upcoming Public Transport Day on Nov. 1.

Challenge 1: Ride public transport (metro, tram, bus, water taxi and waterbus) using your Nol card from today to Nov. 1. Two people who have the most frequent rides by the end of the period will win Dh50,000 each.

Challenge 2: Join a group for the public transport race on Nov. 1 and perform exercises at each station. The top 3 teams that finish the race successfully will win Dh50,000, Dh30,000 and Dh15,000 respectively.

Challenge 3: Spot the Golden Runner from Oct. 23 to Nov. 1 at locations given by the RTA on their Instagram account and tell him the secret code posted in the same account to win wearable gadgets, Apple watches or an iPhone 8.

The RTA said these challenges will lessen pollution as less private cars are predicted to be on the road, increase citizens’ financial capacity and improve their health.

The Dubai Police and the RTA also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote the safety of transport users and facilities in Dubai.

The two institutions will work with each other to streamline procedures such as emergency drills, communication channels and faster information exchange for security operations.
