The Philippine Parts Makers Association revealed Oct. 10 how modernized jeepneys would look like.
Air-conditioned and equipped with Wi-Fi, GPS, CCTVs and persons-with-disabilities-friendly features, the new jeepneys are part of the government’s program to modernize public utility vehicles (PUV).
“Makikita nila kung papaano ang safety and convenience ng mga bagong sasakyan na ito,” ABS-CBN News quoted the association’s president Ferdie Raquel Santos as saying.
Santos said most of the car parts will be made in the Philippines, except for the engine and chassis.
The vehicles, however, will cost around P1.3 million to P1.6 million.
The 16 jeepney prototypes will be shown to the public on Thursday at the Philippine Autoparts Expo in Pasay City.
