Ice rink on a desert country. Why not?

What could’ve been Elsa’s dream to turn every land into ice might just become a reality. Dubai, a city known for its futuristic design on building and architecture, has made another feat by installing an ice rink–or better yet, one that’s not really made out of ice–in one of its local schools.

Glicerink, which has already installed like projects in multiple countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa, is a Swiss company that spearheaded that installment of the synthetic ice rink that does not use water or energy.

The company shared that the ice present is based on a complex molecular technology using specific ingredients “to create an artificial surface that looks like ice and has the same glide effect, but doesn’t require any water or energy.” It can also operate outdoors and under the hot sun the city of Dubai is used to, as it uses a waterless zero-energy technology.

The said rink is put up at the Next Generation School in Dubai to inspire students of an ecological future vision.

Glicerink is also motivated to promote the sport of ice skating to most students in Dubai who have yet to see it in real life and beyond television.
