Pinays in Abu Dhabi learn more about fashion from ‘J-Lo’

The idea of having a certain style, or to be “in-style” denotes individuality. Nobody is exempted when it comes to styling. Even the shy personality types don’t have to be under dressed or “plain looking”.

This is what Abu Dhabi-based fashion designers Aldwin “JLO” Guardiana and Jose Allen Villena told members of the Philippine Ladies Circle in Abu Dhabi during an informal fashion and style session at the residence of Philippine Ambassador Constancio Vingno Jr. and Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno on Friday, July 21.

JLO and Allen taught the ladies the basics of styling like picking the right outfit for an occasion; dressing up according to age, height, and body shape; and accessorizing.

“In my 17 years of experience in the fashion world, I have known that being a fashion designer is not just about fashion design. It is also about styling. We need to teach the Filipino community about all these, especially the ladies. At least we now have our connection in the embassy through the help of Madame Yoko and Vice Consul Rowena Daquipil,” JLO said.

“Fashion is evolving. Filipinos should be encouraged to be highly fashionable to show the other nationalities that we are a naturally fashionable people. You don’t have to buy expensive accessories to be stylish. Also don’t overdress,” said Allen.

Madame Vingno who graciously hosted the intimate gathering said, she believes the Philippine Ladies Circle who are mostly embassy staff, deserve to have a stress-relieving activities such as this.

“Para naman ma-de-stress sila. Hindi lang yung parati silang naka-focus sa trabaho. I hold simple gatherings like this, in which we don’t have to spend much, for all the members to have fun and relaxation. At the same time, we all learn something worthwhile,” said Vingno.

“This is the ultimate goal of these series of exercises. To level up the sense of style of everyone. If the people who visit the embassy will see that our staff are well-dressed and presentable, they would emulate,” she added. (GC)
