The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to construct the world’s largest airport, with a final capacity of 260 million passengers.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the designs of Al Maktoum International Airport’s new passenger terminal.
His Highness has also approved the immediate start of the building’s construction worth AED 128 billion, as part of the Dubai Aviation Corporation’s strategy.
“It will be five times the current Dubai International Airport,” His Highness said.
“All operations of Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it in the coming years. The airport will include 400 aircraft gates and five runways,” His Highness added.
Moreover, the bigger airport will incorporate advanced technologies for the first time in the aviation sector.
The said project is also aligned with the government’s vision to offer ease of access to the new airport, efficient use of public transportation, and lessened reliance on private transportation, which supports reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
