The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced that at least two more batches of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Israel will be repatriated back to the Philippines this week.
DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo J. Cacdac said that a fifth batch of OFWs will be arriving this afternoon from Israel via Etihad Airways flight EY 424 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 3.
“There will be 22 returning OFWs and one infant in this latest group coming back to the Philippines in the last three weeks from Israel. 19 of the returning OFWs are caregivers while the remaining 3 are hotel workers,” the department said.
The department adds that the remains of OFW Mary Grace Prodigo-Cabrera will be brought back by her sister Mary June Prodigo who is part of this latest group of returnees.
Mary Grace was one of four Filipino caregivers who died on the first day of the attacks on October 7.
The DMW adds that a sixth batch composed of 42 OFWs returning to the Philippines from the Israel-Hamas conflict is slated to arrive on Tuesday.
“The return to the country of these two batches this week will bring to a total of 184 the number of OFWs who have come back to the Philippines from Israel,” the DMW added.
“The DMW expects more returning OFWs as hostilities between Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas show no signs of toning down in the coming weeks,” it continued.
