The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested an Australian, Peter David Maxwell, for abusing his Filipina partner and her child. He is now facing deportation proceedings due to these charges. The case came about after a complaint from Maxwell’s estranged wife, who accused him of abuse. Maxwell was arrested in Morong, Bataan, on October 25.
Maxwell, whose tourist visa expired in 2018, is considered undocumented, as his passport is no longer valid. Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco stressed that foreigners who harm Filipino women and children should not be allowed to stay in the country.
In a separate incident, the BI arrested a Chinese fugitive, Xiao Peng, in Cebu province. Xiao Peng is wanted by the Chinese government for illegal business activities related to tobacco products. He is currently in BI custody while awaiting deportation.
