Days after the brutal killing of 17-year-old Jemboy Baltazar in Navotas City, another teenager was killed in a police operation in Rizal Province.
In an ABS-CBN report, the latest teen killing happened on August 20 involving a policeman who was conducting the so-called ‘Oplan Sita’.
The victim’s brother allegedly ignored the checkpoint conducted by the police officer prompting the latter to chase the 22-year-old rider.
The rider then reached his home and then threw his helmet to the police officer. The policeman then fired gunshots in retaliation which eventually hit the 15-year-old teen.
The victim was identified as John Francis Ompad. He was brought to the hospital but later
on declared dead.
“Ang nakita natin, talagang may lapses. Unang-una po, not wearing proper uniform,” P/Capt. Mariesol Tactaquin, public information officer of the Rizal police told TeleRadyo.
“And also doon sa pagbato ng helmet, parang sobra-sobra naman yung reply mo, response mo, and then ikaw, nag-draw ka ng firearm mo, pinutukan mo. Parang excessive force naman ang iyong ginamit,” she continued.
The police are now looking at allegations that the policeman was accompanied by a civilian.
“Anong ginagawa ni civilian na sila ay magkasama? Hindi naman po pupuwede na ako’y isang pulis, para lang maka-comply sa buddy-buddy system ay magsasama ako ng ka-buddy ko na hindi naman pulis, wala pong ganoon,” Tactaquin said.
The policeman is now facing homicide charges.
