Pope Francis announced on Sunday that the Catholic Church is open to everyone including the members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexuals (LGBT) community saying that the Church has the responsibility to guide anyone on their spiritual paths but within its rules.
During a post-World Youth Day Catholic Festival conference, the Pope was asked about the Church being open to everyone and yet some women and gay people are still not allowed to receive sacraments and rights.
The question was anchored on issues of women not being allowed to enter priesthood and gay people not being allowed to get married which is also a sacrament.
“The Church is open to everyone but there are laws that regulate life inside the church,” he said.
“According to the legislation, they cannot partake in some sacraments. This does not mean that it is closed. Each person encounters God in their own way inside the Church,” he added.
Francis said that the Church should continue guiding believers with the patience and love of a mother.
The Pope said that his health has also improved after undergoing a hernia surgery last June.
