UAE supermarkets, retailers stock up for Ramadan shopping rush

As the Ramadan season begins, supermarkets across the UAE are expanding their inventory of key food and beverage products in anticipation of the expected surge in consumer demand.

Al Maya Supermarket, one of the leading supermarkets in the country, has stated that food and beverage is the most purchased category during the Holy Month, followed by household essentials and personal care products.

Kamal Vachani, Group Director of Al Maya Group, said that the supermarket uses sophisticated inventory management systems to track sales and ensure that their supply levels will meet high-demand items.

“We have worked hard to ensure that our shelves are stocked with a wide range of products, from dates and traditional Ramadan foods to household items and personal care products,” Vachani said.

“We understand that Ramadan is a special time for our customers, and we want to make sure that they have everything they need to observe the Holy Month,” he added.

According to a recent study by multinational market research Ipsos, the majority of people in the UAE, 78 percent, “stated that Ramadan is their favorite month of the year.” The study also found that there is high shopping prevalence across all groups at 85 percent, with men having the highest likelihood of going out to shop. Additionally, 44 percent of consumers “eat more at home,” and 31 percent prefer to “eat indoors.”

As families gather to break their fasts, Al Maya expects to see an increase in sales of family-size products and items commonly used in Ramadan recipes.

“We are anticipating a shift in consumer behavior this Ramadan as people gather with their families to share meals and observe the Holy Month,” said Vachani. “We have taken this into consideration and have stocked up on products that are commonly used in Ramadan recipes, such as lentils, rice, and spices.”

In addition to the usual categories, Al Maya Supermarket has also introduced a range of special products for Ramadan including dates from different parts of the world, traditional sweets and snacks, and exclusive Ramadan-themed products.
