The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Quezon City local government has signed an agreement for joint coordination in looking after the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.
Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte inked on Wednesday a memorandum of agreement which included support programs for children of OFWs.
According to Ople, the DMW wants to work closely with local government units to combat online illegal recruitment and human trafficking. She also reminded the residents to coordinate with the city government in case they have doubts on any job offers abroad.
Meanwhile, Belmonte noted that the city has a migrant resource center which serves as a one-stop shop for the needs of the OFWs, including skill training and getting job employment abroad from legitimate agencies.
On the same event, the city government has launched the “E-Habilin” online registration portal that is eyed to support and protect children left behind by their parents abroad.
The portal will help the city government provide appropriate programs and services for the children of the migrant workers.
Quezon City is the first local government unit to sign a partnership with the DMW.
