The Consulate General in Los Angeles has confirmed that a Filipino was among the 11 victims of a mass shooting incident at the Monterey Park, California over the weekend.
Deputy Consul General Ambrosio Enciso III identified the victim as 68 year-old Valentino Alvero.
“We are trying to reach out through our Filipino community contacts to reach out dun sa family,” Enciso told GMA News.
Enciso added that they are still gathering information on another Filipino reportedly wounded during the shooting.
“Yung mga injured ‘di pa nire-release ‘yung pangalan,” he said.
“‘Yung lugar na ginanapan ng krimen ay isang public hall. I think there was a party going on there,” Enciso said.
The official said that the area where the shooting took place was composed of 65 per cent Asian population.
The alleged gunman, identified as Huu Can Tran, 72, shot himself while inside a white van as policemen try to arrest him. He was pronounced dead at the scene following a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
