Five individuals have been convicted of a violent robbery in Dubai, in which they impersonated police officers and stole AED1.1 M from an investor and his cousin.
The incident took place last March 2021, when the victims reported hearing loud noises near the door of their apartment. Upon investigating, they found a group of people attempting to enter the residence.
Despite the victims’ attempts to keep the door closed, the perpetrators broke it down and entered the apartment, where they physically assaulted the victims and stole the money before fleeing.
An investigation team was able to identify the gang members and arrested one of them at Dubai Airport as he was attempting to leave the country. He confessed to his involvement in the crime and provided information that led to the arrests of the other members.
All five individuals were subsequently convicted and sentenced to five years in prison, as well as being ordered to pay a fine equal to the value of the stolen money. The Dubai Criminal Court upheld the ruling upon appeal.
