Efforts were made to resuscitate her but in vain and this came as a rude shock to her husband Simon, son Nathan and daughter Emma who were travelling with her and she laid in a breathless sleep in her seat.
This was extremely traumatising to the family and what was more heart-wrenching was that for the remaining eight hours of the flight, Rhodes’ children sat next to their mother until they landed in Frankfurt.
It was like a night without end for the family members, who were devastated by her sudden death and upon landing in Germany, Helen’s body remained in Frankfurt as her husband and two children flew to the UK.
