Authorities rescued at least 870 people in the flash floods in the UAE’s Northern Emirates.
In total, 3,897 people were placed in temporary shelters in Sharjah and Fujairah and will remain there until their homes are seen safe for them to return while earlier public bus trips to Fujairah were also suspended.
The National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (Ncema) said 20 hotels in have the capacity to house an additional 1,885 people and the measures came after the national meteorological office issued a red alert in light of “hazardous weather events”.
Weather officials said the deluge on Wednesday contributed to this month being the wettest July in more than 30 years while the RTA has also instructed taxis that transport passengers towards Fujairah should be careful in order to ensure public safety.

Over 50 buses have been mobilised in the past 24 hours to carry people to safety while His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, earlier directed the Ministry of Interior to deploy rescue teams from all nearby emirates to support Fujairah and the eastern regions of the country.
Over 100 volunteers have been working to help residents and clean up debris while no deaths or casualties were reported.
