The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has signed a resolution asking President Rodrigo Duterte to declare election day a non-working holiday.
Through the resolution, the poll-body sought that the national elections on May 9 be declared as special non-working holiday.
Comelec chairman Saidamen Pangarungan announced that a Resolution No. 10784 was signed informing about the commission’s request to the President.

“We signed Resolution No. 10784 requesting President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to declare May 9, 2022 as a special non-working holiday all throughout the country in connection with the national and local elections,” Pangarungan said.
The local absentee voting began on Wednesday for soldiers, police officers, government personnel, and members of the media who will not be able to cast their votes on May 9 and will run until Friday, April 29.
