UAE stops visa stamping on passports from today, April 11

Emirates ID, which will now be considered the residency document for expats, will replace visa stamping on passports from today, April 11, in the UAE.

From today, the applicants will not deposit their passports for visa stamping and for the residency applications as two separate visa and Emirates ID processes have been replaced with a single application.

A top official at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) was quoted as saying by Al Khaleej newspaper that this will cut down on time in getting the residency by “30 to 40 per cent”.

The Emirates ID contains all relevant residency-related information including personal and professional data.
