Chaotic scenes were witnessed outside Swatch stores in Dubai for the purchase of MoonSwatch as it sold 20 times higher online than the AED 950 price.
Watches in the new series produced by Omega and Swatch sold online at a significantly higher amount than the original retail price, media reports said.
On the Dubai-based online marketplace Dubizzle MoonSwatch, which is a collaboration between Omega and Swatch(both part of Switzerland-based Swatch Group), timepieces sold at AED 20,000, reported Khaleej Times.
Swatch UAE has said in a statement that each shopper would be allowed to buy only one watch instead of two on Saturday due to high demand, it added. It also assured the public that more watches of the same edition will also be available since it isn’t a limited edition watch.
Shoppers scrambled at stores in Singapore and Hong Kong while in London, Swatch’s Carnaby Street store closed as crowds became unmanageable.
