The Philippines is now considering to donate COVID-19 vaccines to nations still having a shortage of supply of the vaccines.
This move aims to prevent the spoilage of vaccines near their shelf life, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
“We have sufficient vaccines and some of their shelf life are nearing its expiry,” DOH Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje, who heads the National Vaccine Operations Center of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 said in a Laging Handa briefing.
Cabotaje said that among the possible recipients will be countries in Africa and Myanmar.
A total of 232,673,310 doses have been delivered to the country since early last year.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the country had yet to meet its target number of fully vaccinated people. He is also not in favor of placing the entire country to Alert Level 1.
“Not now. We don’t want to lose what we have already achieved. We need to be cautious,” he said in a radio interview
