Presidential aspirant and Vice President Leni Robredo has responded to the possibility of President Rodrigo Duterte running for a senate seat in the 2022 elections.
Robredo is clearly distancing herself from Duterte’s political plans.
“If he decides to make a senatorial run, that’s up to him,” Robredo said in a press conference on Saturday.

Robredo however notes the abuse on the provision of the Omnibus Election Code allowing the substitution of candidates.
“I hope the law against substitution gets revisited so it won’t get abused … to put a plug on the loopholes as to why it gets abused,” she added.
Under the law, substitution of candidates is allowed in cases of death, withdrawal or disqualification of the original candidate.
This year’s deadline for substitution is until November 15.

Rumors of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte substituting Senator Bong Go are still ongoing amid the repeated denials of the city mayor.
President Duterte also ran under substitution when he replaced Martin Dino as PDP-Laban’s standard bearer.
“When we had a major substitution in 2016, it seemed like it’s now a trend to put a placeholder, but other candidates will run on their behalf,” Robredo said. (TDT)
