The UAE’s first analog astronaut has begun his first mission that simulates the journey to Mars.
Saleh Al Ameri will start his eight-month-long isolation to simulate Mars journey and has joined three astronauts from Russia and two others from the US.
On August 15, 2021, Al Ameri and Abdalla Al Hammadi were the first Emirati analog astronauts selected for the mission by Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC).
Salem AlMarri, deputy director-general, MBRSC, said that this was in line with the strategy to explore the moon and Mars missions.
Saleh Al Ameri expressed happiness in taking part in the international scientific team and the isolation project.
He said that they are going to carry out around 70 experiments.
