Human rights lawyer Jose Manuel ‘Chel’ Diokno is giving the senatorial race a second shot after he confirms that he will run in 2022.
Diokno said that he is more prepared following his loss in the 2019 midterm elections.

“Yes, I have decided that I will be running for the Senate. Sa ngayon ako po ay independent. I have not allied or affiliated in a particular party,” Diokno told One News.
“We did not have much resources, we did not have a ground crew that could really fight the ground war… but I’ve had two years to think about it, to plan how to wage a better campaign and during this time a lot has changed, the political landscape has changed,” he added.
“We have seen how important is it to have a good message and to really take advantage of social media platforms,” he continued.

Diokno ran with the opposition slate known as ‘Ocho Diretso’ in 2019. None of them secured a senate seat. Diokno lost with 6,308,065 votes.
Celebrities who lauded and supported Diokno’s decision include Vice Ganda and Bianca Gonzales. (TDT)
