Vice President Leni Robredo has rejected the idea of a possible senatorial run in the 2022 elections.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Robredo said that she would rather seek a local position if she will not run for president.
“No, I’m not. Tingin ko, hindi ‘yun ‘yung aking strength,” Robredo said.
“I can run for a local position, I can retire, I can just help the next administration if I don’t run for president,” she added.
Robredo reiterated that she is open to run for president, but she has yet to make a decision.
She also expressed her gratitude to several groups urging her to run for president.
“I still firmly believe that we need to talk beyond our usual circles. ‘Yung paniniwala ko pa din is to go into 2022 with a united front. Hindi ko naman tinitingnan yung sarili ko na savior. I have always kept myself close to the ground. Kaya sa akin, alam ko na hindi kaya ng very best of intentions. Sa akin, parati akong nakikinig sa pakiramdam ng maraming tao,” she said.
Robredo added that she is willing to support the tandem of Senator Manny Pacquiao and Isko Moreno if this will be the outcome of the broadest coalition to run against the administration bets.
Last week, Robredo’s camp said she is set to resume her talks with the two once she’s finished with her quarantine after being exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual.
Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said that Robredo is ready to speak again with the two possible 2022 presidential and vice-presidential bets after her quarantine.
