The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has met with the owners of the construction and trading company where the agency allegedly bought around PHP1 million pesos worth of hygiene kits, sanitary napkins.
“The reason why may word na construction is because meron silang construction supplies or hardwares but they don’t do construction work it’s really trading general merchandise,” Cacdac told CNN Philippines.
The OWWA chief said that the hygiene kits and napkins were given to distressed OFWs including those who were quarantined in 2GO ships last year.
He said that the business transferred to a different address that’s why COA could not locate them.
“The old address was stated in their receipt and that’s what guided COA and even us. Lumipat pala siya, but still within the same area of Malibay,” he said.
OWWA also defended the agency on the purchase of the items, insisting they were not overpriced.
Cacdac said that there was a misunderstanding between COA and their accounting clerks on the price of the sanitary napkins which they would explain in the audit process.
