UAE residents will soon get their hands on a ‘new generation’ of the Emirates ID that features enhanced security measures and more important data about its owner.
The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) outlined five key points of the advanced version of the new ID as follows:
– High-quality card that uses polycarbonate with a longer service life of up to 10 years.
– Better protection for non-visible data that can now be read through ICA’s ‘E-link system’
– Higher capacity and non-touch data reading features on the card’s chip provides advanced technical and technological characteristics
– New laser-printed 3D photo that will be authenticated with the holder’s date of birth.
– New ID now has additional fields and codes definition including information such as professional data, issuing authority and population group.

The Emirates ID is an ‘all-in-one’ identification card for both citizens and residents of the country which is a legal requirement to stay here in the country for expats.
Earlier, the UAE also launched new designs for Emirati passports.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai first announced that the Emirates ID will be undergoing a revamp in November 2020.
The new Emirates ID will now have additional electronic security features to protect its owner from identity fraud and to strengthen national and international confidence in travel documents. (AW)
