Another Filipino athlete—boxer Carlo Paalam—has a shot at bagging the second gold medal for the Philippines in the Tokyo Olympics.
The 23-year old Paalam beat Japanese boxer Ryomei Tanaka in the men’s flyweight semifinal of the Tokyo Olympics at the Kokugikan Arena on Thursday.
The win assured Paalam of at least a silver medal in the Olympics and will face either Galal Yafi of Great Britain and Saken Bibossinov of Kazakhstan.

If Paalam wins his final match, he will be the second Filipino athlete to bring home a gold medal for the Philippines. The first one was weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz who bagged the historic first gold medal for the country in the history of the Olympics.
So far, the Philippines has one gold medal and one silver medal in the Olympics. Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio earlier bagged a silver medal for the country.
Meanwhile, boxer Eumir Marcial is set to fight for a slot in the gold medal round against Oleksandr Khyzhniak of Ukraine on Thursday afternoon.
