The majority of current and aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) prefer to do the Caregiving National Certificate (NC) II course among the various TESDA training courses offered by The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Around 1,299 OFWs (11.59 % of the total OFW trainees) finished their training in TESDA Caregiving NC II by June 2021, the agency said, adding that 11,240 OFWs graduated in various TESDA training courses in the first half of 2021.

TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña attributed the rise in the number of OFWs seeking caregivers training to the huge demand for Filipino caregivers in other countries like Israel.
Lapeña also highlighted TESDA’s continuous efforts to maximize the potential of such caregivers by equipping them with the required knowledge and world-class competency.

TESDA’s latest program “TESDA Abot Lahat ang OFWs” was launched June 2020 as part of the agency’s commitment to continuing to strengthen its Caregiving NC II training and assessment facilities in the Philippines and to upgrade skills of OFWs affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lapeña said that the second most popular TESDA training course was ”Driving NC” II with 1,190 graduates (10.59 %) as of June 2021, followed by Bread and Pastry NC II with 915 graduates (8.14%) of the total OFWs who trained in different TESDA training courses as of June. (AW)
