Leni’s camp denies politicking after giving Davao City advice on COVID-19 battle

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo slammed accusations that she is politicking when she gave her advice to Davao City amid the current COVID-19 surge.

Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez told ABS-CBN News that the Vice President has no malice when she gave her suggestion that Davao City should look at the situation in Cebu in handling the coronavirus surge.

“So, I don’t see what the problem is. Why so defensive, why immediately jump to, ‘Let’s meet in the elections’?” Gutierrez said.

“Mayor Duterte has been saying she’s not running. Why all of a sudden she’s saying that ‘we should meet in the elections’? Is that an indirect way of saying that, after all her protestations, she is vying to run for president in 2022?” he remarked.

“After all, there are, you know, Run Sara Run posters all over the place,” he added.

Gutierrez said that Robredo has been constantly giving her suggestions to further improve the pandemic response.

“But you know, they never listened to her, and you know, despite all the work that she’s done, they insist that she’s politicking. Who’s politicking?” he said.

On Monday, Sara said that Robredo should “avoid involving the COVID-19 surge in Davao City in her attempt at politicking.”

“This has been the hallmark of her term as VP, where she puts forth comments on matters and affairs she lacks understanding and knowledge on and does not offer anything helpful to solve a problem,” Sara said in a statement.

“There will be a proper time to attack my performance as an LCE in this pandemic if she dares to run for President,” she added.
