The Philippine Embassy in Bahrain has warned Filipino expatriates about online and telecom scamsters who are targeting their community.
The warning comes in the wake of a number of overseas Filipinos there being scammed, the officials said.
There are around 58,000 Filipinos working in Bahrain, of which 18,000 are domestic workers.
Philippines Ambassador Alphonso Ver said they received reports of Filipino nationals taking part in fraudulent online raffles.
In this modus, scammers lure Filipinos to join with “great prizes” at stake.
A number of such incidents happened during the celebration of Philippines Independence Day on June 12, Ver said.
Urging Filipino nationals not to fall prey to online scams that promised big returns, Ver appealed to the community to avoid gambling, card games and other related activities as they are illegal in Bahrain and draw severe penalties.
