The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) would not have any changes in its services, even as Malacañang ordered the diversion of international flights to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) until June 12, airport authorities said. on June 10.
Lawyer Glenn Napuli, MCIA Authority (MCIAA) acting general manager, said international flights continued to be diverted to NAIA in Pasay City—in spite of some officials’ expressing support to the executive order (EO) of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia of implementing “swab upon arrival” for overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and returning Filipino overseas (ROF).

Napuli told the Philippine News Agency that the focus remained on international cargo servicing — after international flights were still disallowed – and the MCIA continued to be operational in order to serve outbound flights.
He said that the MCIA served the last international flights on June 5 — the day the second order to divert flights to NAIA was issued, though they received this order on June 7.
Last June 5, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea had issued a memorandum that highlighted extending the flight diversion from MCIA to NAIA, to ensure proper testing and quarantine protocols for OFWs and ROFs. (AW)
