DOH clarifies that only 5 not 6 travelers from India tested positive for COVID-19

The Department of Health clarified that only 5 and not 6 as previously reported travellers from India tested positive for COVID-19.

The DOH said the Bureau of Quarantine has recorded 149 passengers with recent travel history from India, composed of 129 returning overseas Filipinos and 20 foreign nationals.

All 149 passengers were quarantined upon their arrival.

“Among these cases, 5 tested positive for COVID-19 through RT PCR while 137 of them tested negative. Among those who tested positive, 1 is still in isolation while the disposition of the 4 patients are being verified,” the DOH said.

“Samples from these positive cases are currently being determined if they are adequate for sequencing,” it added.

The results of seven others are still being verified by the DOH.

A travel ban to all travellers from India started on April 19 to May 14.

The Philippines has imposed a travel ban to passengers coming from Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh to prevent the entry of the new COVID-19 variant from India.

In a document coming from Malacañang, travellers will be prohibited from May 7 to May 14, 2021.

Filipinos and foreigners who only transited with these countries do not need to undergo the mandatory 14-say quarantine but they have to follow existing testing and quarantine rules.

All specimens from passengers in the following countries including India that turn positive will be subjected to genome sequencing. (TDT)
