Police arrested an 18-year-old mother in Taguig for beating her one-year-old baby to death.
The suspect told the police that she was annoyed by the baby’s cry so she repeatedly hit the child with a rattan stick.
The incident happened afternoon of Tuesday, April 20 in Sitio Imelda, Barangay Upper Bicutan.
The baby suffered difficulty in breathing and was rushed to the Upper Bicutan Health Center, Manila Bulletin reported.
The mother later brought her baby to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital (TPDH), where the baby was declared dead on arrival at 1:37 p.m.
The hospital reported the incident to the police that led to her arrest.
According to the victim’s grandmother, this is not the first time that the single mother beat her baby.
An autopsy report showed that the baby died due to blunt abdominal trauma and suffered hematoma.
The mother is facing charges of parricide.
