Mount Sinabung in Indonesia erupted today, March 2, spewing hot ash as high as 5 kilometers – it’s highest eruption since August 2020.
Indonesia’s local volcanology center reported that Mount Sinabung has been placed at the second-highest level since last year, following increased volcanic activities.
The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Centre in Indonesia reported no casualties as residents had been advised to stay away from at least 3 kilometers from the vicinity of the crater.
Reports from Reuters state that as of posting time, the situation has calmed down and the ash has decreased.
The country is included in the “Pacific Ring of Fire” with 130 active volcanoes.
