Domestic worker to pay AED880,000 for stealing money from employers

A Ugandan domestic worker is asked to pay AED880,000 worth of money she stole from her employers.

The Dubai Criminal Court also ordered her to serve one year in jail term and will be deported after that.

According to the court, she stole AED760,000, $50,000 (AED183,650) and 3,000 Kuwaiti Dinars (AED36,425) or a total of nearly AED1 million ($217,800).

The 26-year-old woman denied the charges but was convicted in court.

This incident happened in September 2020, when she was still working for her Lebanese employer.

This is not the first time that the maid did this, as she was also caught stealing money from them in March.

The couple then kept the key to their bedroom, where they hid large sum of money.

But the maid still found a way to get hold of the key, stole the money and left the following morning.

One of her employer said he saw that the maid was bringing a bag with her but didn’t suspect anything until the next morning when they’ve discovered their money missing.

They called and sought the help of the police.

It was in October 2019 when the maid was caught.

She admitted to her crime during the questioning and revealed that she handed the money to a man who promised to smuggle her out of the country.

Unfortunately, her friend couldn’t find her a way out. (TDT)
