DID YOU KNOW? OFWs who got COVID-19 can still get gov’t assistance even if they have own insurance. Find out how much and how to apply

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the UAE who got infected with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can still get assistance from the government despite having been covered by their own health insurance.

This is according to Philippine Overseas Labor Office – Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA), which noted that this assistance is available to all members of OWWA.

In an interview with The Filipino Times, POLO-OWWA Welfare Officer Melvin Caseda said that qualified members will be given a one-time financial assistance amounting to AED730.

He added that just like the financial assistance offered by the Department of Labor and Employement’s AKAP program, this will be on a first-come-first-served basis and is subject to availability of funds.

“Even if they have insurance at na-cover ang medical expenses nila, they can still apply. After ma-review ang mga requirements, papadalhan ng form ang mga qualified at tatawagan po sila kapag pwede na nila iclaim ang o avilable na ang funds,” he said.

COVID-19 survivors can apply for this program at POLO-Dubai if they are Dubai or Northern Emirates visa holders, while Abu Dhabi visa holders can apply at POLO-Abu Dhabi.

Here are the requirements to get the one-time financial assistance from POLO-OWWA:

1.Passport copy

2. Working Visa Copy

3. Medical report/certificate that states the COVID-19 positive diagnosis of the patient

4. Proof of OWWA membership
