Woman who ‘died’ due to COVID-19 returned 10 days later – report

An 85-year-old woman, whose family was told that she has been buried after dying from complications of COVID-19, shocked her family when she returned to her nursing home after days.

The family of Rogelia Blanco in Xove, Spain were initially informed that the old woman had died due to the virus on January 13. A funeral was held the next day, according to La Voz de Galicia newspaper.

Due to health restrictions the family were not able to attend the funeral.

So it came as a surprise when the woman returned to her nursing home.

“I could not believe it. I was crying, after the death of my wife,” her husband, Ramon Blanco, said.

It turned out that San Rosendo Foundation, the owner of the care home, had errors in processing the names of the residents who tested positive for the virus. They were transferred to another care home for treatment.

“Among the elderly people transferred were two women who were assigned the same room. An identification error during the process of transfer from Xove to Pereiro de Aguiar led to the death of one of them being certified on Jan. 13, although the identity was wrongly assigned,” the foundation told La Voz de Galicia.

The foundation regrets the unfortunate incident.

A court had been notified to reverse the mistake over Blanco’s death.
